Brunei DPMM vs Hougang United

(August 3, Sunday, 8.15pm, Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium)

Brunei DPMM lock horns with Hougang United at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium on Sunday night in a Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League encounter.

The Bruneians shift their focus back to the league after being freshly crowned champions of the StarHub League Cup 2014, after cruising to a 2-0 victory over Tanjong Pagar United in the final.

The only time the Wasps were denied a win in the league cup campaign was in a group-stage battle, when they were held 2-2 by Balestier Khalsa.

Their opponents for this encounter, Hougang, were not very far from the final, as they got knocked out by Tanjong Pagar in the semis on penalty shootouts.

Currently, Brunei are at the peak of the table with 38 points and a superior goal difference compared to Tampines Rovers, who are level on points with them.

A win against the Cheetahs will ensure that they maintain a three-point lead at the top of the table.

As for Hougang, they are currently sixth with 32 points, and if they managed to overcome the league leaders, they can go as high as third place.

All eyes would be on Rodrigo Tosi and Roy O’Donovan to bang in the goals for Steve Kean’s side as the duo have combined to create a total of 28 goals in just 18 games.

The Wasps also have the league’s best goalscoring records, as they have scored the most and conceded the least.

Hougang would be relying on Deigo Gama and Geison Moura to keep the Bruneian backline busy with the hopes of climbing up the table.

This game does not only involve these two sides, but also the title-chasers. Tampines, Home United, Warriors FC and Albirex Niigata (S), as all these teams are closely packed in the top half of the table, with only six points separating the first and sixth placed team.

Key Men To Watch

Brunei DPMM: Rodrigo Tosi

Certainly one of the most impressive players in the league so far, Tosi is also currently leading the scoring charts with 16 goals.

The forward is a creator of chances and a destroyer of defenders as his excellent ball control and finishing skills is something Hougang has to be wary about.

Hougang United: Fazli Jaffar

Being known for his speed and delicate left-foot, the winger would be looking to add to his goals of two, or at least aid his team to put on a tough fight against Brunei DPMM.
