Hougang United have reinforced their goalkeeping department with their second signing in as many days. Zainol Gulam, 30, returns to the SPL with his third club after spells with Warriors FC (2017) and Geylang International (2018 to 2021). With Ridhuan Barudin out for the long term, Zainol will provide competition for Mukundan Maran and Aizil Yazid.

The Cheetahs have de-registered Ridhuan Barudin from their SPL side, while attacker Kishson Philip is set to be registered with their Under-21 team.

17 June

Young full-back Jordan Vestering has rejoined Hougang United after completing his National Service. The half-Dutch 21-year-old came through the Cheetah’s youth ranks and made his professional debut in 2018 before leaving to serve the nation after the 2020 season.

Yet another new arrival at Tanjong Pagar United, with Ryan Syaffiq signing for the upcoming season. He joined the Young Lions in 2020 and then moved to the Sailors in 2021, but is yet to make his professional debut.

The versatile midfielder, who can also drop back to play in defence, has spent the past two years in Thailand with Suphanburi, Samut Prakan City and most recently, Sukhothai.

14 February

Seems like Hougang United are in a giving mood as well, as they have just announced the arrival of Brazilian striker Pedro Bortoluzo. The Fernandópolis native, who turns 27 this July, last played for Portuguese second-tier outfit U.D. Oliveirense in the 2020/21 season and scored thrice in 23 appearances. Bortoluzo started his career with São Paulo FC and came through the youth ranks to make his top-flight debut in 2016. He went out on loan to a few second-division clubs before moving to Portugal in 2020. The 1.86m forward is the fourth foreign signing to be unveiled by the Cheetahs.

Tanjong Pagar United have given their fans a Valentine’s Day present – Blake Ricciuto has returned for a second year at the club. The Australian midfielder of Uruguayan and Italian descent, 29, won the title with Brunei DPMM in 2019 before joining the Jaguars last season. He played 20 times, scoring twice and making five assists, and is their final foreign signing for the 2022 campaign.

Joel Chew is the third Tampines Rovers signing to seal a five-year deal. The talented midfielder, who is set to return to the club in 2023, follows in the footsteps of Kyoga Nakamura and Shah Shahiran. The 21-year-old playmaker came through the National Football Academy and made his professional debut with the Stags in 2019, spending two seasons before joining the Young Lions in 2021 as he serves his National Service. He told the club: “I trust the coaching staff in charge, and the way they want to set up the club presents an exciting project.”

23 January

Tanjong Pagar United make Aqhari Abdullah their third local signing for the new season as the 30-year-old joins from the Lion City Sailors. The right-back made nine appearances last season as the Sailors won the SPL title. Faizal Raffi is the second new local signing for Tanjong Pagar United. The central midfielder started his career at Balestier Khalsa in 2015 but only made his professional debut a year later with Tampines Rovers. He went on to play for Warriors FC before a return to Balestier in 2020. The 26-year-old is the Jaguars’ second signing after the arrival of Mirko Sugic earlier this month.

21 January

Following in the footsteps of Kyoga Nakamura, midfielder Shah Shahiran has also penned a five-year deal with Tampines Rovers. The 22-year-old, who is currently serving his National Service and playing for the Young Lions, will return to the Stags in 2023. The highly-rated youth prospect made his debut with the Stags in 2018 and quickly established himself as a regular despite his age. “As a boyhood Tampines fan watching the likes of Mustafic Fahrudin and co, I can’t express how honoured I am to sign this deal. It is truly a dream come true,” he told the club.

19 January

Two days after making their first local signing, Hougang United have confirmed a second and it’s the capture of forward Amy Recha. The 29-year-old enjoyed his best scoring season in 2021, finding the back of the net 12 times for Geylang International and deservedly earned his National Team debut. The versatile Amy, who can play on either flank or lead the line, began his career with the Eagles in 2011 – the first of three stints with them – and has turned out for the Young Lions and Home United. He is the Cheetahs’ new number 19.

17 January

Hougang United have added to their defence with the signing of Nazhiim Harman. The 22-year-old returns to the club where he played for during his youth career, before moving on to the Young Lions. There, he made his professional debut in 2018, before National Service and a long-term injury sidelined the former Singapore youth international until a comeback with the Young Lions in 2021. Nazhiim is capable of playing at both right-back and centre-back, and is the Cheetahs’ first confirmed local signing for 2022. He will wear the number 21.

16 January

Kyoga Nakamura will remain with Tampines Rovers, having penned a five-year contract. The Japanese playmaker, who arrived in Singapore with Albirex Niigata (S) in 2019, swiftly impressed with his creative ability and was signed by the Stags in 2020. The 25-year-old Chiba native, who played for Japan at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in 2013, has scored 10 goals and made 13 assists in 71 appearances for both clubs in total. “I love this great club! Tampines has been my club for the past two years and Singapore has been my home for the last three,” Nakamura said in a club statement.

Prior to that, he played mainly in Brazil’s Serie B, although he did make one appearance for Fluminense in Serie A in 2015 and a few more for Parana in 2016. He will wear the number three.
