AFC Cup 2016: Stags To Host Red Giants At National Stadium For Crucial Clash
Tampines Rovers will be hosting Selangor FA for their final Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup 2016 Group E fixture at the 55,000-seater National Stadium.
Tickets for home fans, priced from just $4 onwards, will go on sale from 12.00pm on Wednesday 27 April.
This will be the first competitive fixture for a Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League club at the National Stadium since it was reopened in 2014.
“We want to do this for Singapore football and I want to thank the Football Association of Singapore, AFC, Singapore Sports Hub and Sport Singapore for making this possible,” said Tampines chairman Krishna Ramachandra.
“I hope fans can come to support us representing the country against Malaysia’s most successful club in a unique club Causeway challenge.”
S.League CEO Lim Chin also added that the clash between the Singaporean side and Malaysian side is akin to the old Malaysia Cup days, where there were fierce rivalry between Singapore and Selangor.
“It is great news for the S.League to have our local club Tampines is playing at the National Stadium for the first time. It is a great pleasure to work with several stakeholders to help Tampines Rovers play their first competitive match at the Singapore Sports Hub,” said the CEO.
“Playing against a great side like Selangor almost mirrors a Singapore vs Malaysia football match, so I hope all Singapore football fans will turn up for this historic match and support Tampines Rovers against Selangor FA in the AFC Cup tournament.”
