SINGAPORE, 27 APRIL 2021 – The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has confirmed new dates for the Group H and I matches in the 2021 AFC Cup, which will be staged in Singapore.
The Asian football governing body announced on Monday evening that the matches in the ASEAN Zone Group Stage, which were originally scheduled to be held from 22 June to 28 June, will now be played from 29 June to 5 July for Group H and 30 June to 6 July for Group I.
This affects the Lion City Sailors and Geylang International, who are in Group H and I respectively as Singapore’s two representatives for this year’s AFC Cup. Aurelio Vidmar’s Sailors will face Malaysia Super League (MSL) runners-up Kedah Darul Aman, V.League 1 second runners-up Sài Gòn and a play-off winner. Meanwhile, Mohd Noor Ali’s Eagles will battle Philippines Football League runners-up Kaya FC-Iloilo, MSL third-placed finishers Terengganu FC and Shan United (Myanmar National League champions).
The AFC had stated in late January that the group stages of both the AFC Champions League (ACL) and AFC Cup for 2021 would be played at centralised venues. In March, Singapore was confirmed as the centralised host for Groups H and I.
