Aide Pleased With Sahil’s Performance and Leadership

It took Sahil Suhaimi several tries at the mandatory 2.4km fitness test before he managed to overcome the hurdle.

But despite the setbacks he suffered in the early stages of the 2014 Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League campaign, the Singapore Under-23 international has put in a solid performance in the two matches he played so far.

While Sahil failed to hit the back of the net in Young Lions’ loss to Albirex Niigata (S), the diminutive striker was instrumental in their victory over Harimau Muda.

Sahil netted the opening goal and was lively with his nifty footwork, after he was handed the captain’s armband by coach Aide Iskandar in the absence of Al-Qaasimy.

That win was also Young Lions’ first three points of the season and Aide was pleased with the 22-year-old’s performance throughout both matches.

“Like I said, he can run all night in a game,” Aide said.

“I am glad he passed the test, and he will be a major boost for the boys, because having him around the boys have a lot of confidence.”

There was no doubt about Sahil’s leadership and talent on the field and Aide admitted he will be a key player in the squad.

“He created chances for players, he is somebody who can make the link up play. With him having the ball sometime he create chances for other players to come in.”

“Sahil is a massive player for me and he will be an important player for this team.”

Another player that has earned praises from the former Singapore skipper was Stanely Ng who, compared to his previous matches, had a better showing against Harimau.

“Stanely did well in the first half but we had to take him out due to tactical reason especially after (Sheikh Abdul) Hadi was sent off,” explained Aide.

“Stanely created several problems for Harimau defence. Hopefully he will improve from here and be consistent in his performance.”

Young Lions will face a daunting task in their next tie as they will host Warriors FC, on 24 April at Jalan Besar Stadium.

Warriors, are currently on a roll as they blitzed four goals past Albirex Niigata (S) a week ago. Nicholas Velez netted all four while Miroslav Pejic, Warriors top-scorer with seven goals,  assisted three of those goals.
