Written by: Muhammad Yazid
Hougang United’s coach, Amin Nasir was announced as the coach for the Singapore Selection side in this year’s Sultan of Selangor (SOS) Cup by Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League CEO Lim Chin during the ticket presentation to fans.
The former Singapore international’s exceptional performance with the Cheetahs has earned him the hot seat, after the team made its mark as the most improved side from past seasons thanks to his guidance in the S.League.
“I feel very honoured with the opportunity and I would like to thank the S.League for putting the faith in me,” Amin expressed.
“I am also grateful for Hougang for allowing me with this accolade in the midst of a memorable 2014 season.”
Amin, whose brother Nazri Nasir is also involved as a Singapore Veterans’ player, was prepared for the challenge but remained confident ahead of the clash.
“It is a huge challenge for me but I am looking forward to it. It would not be easy but we would do our best,” he mentioned.
“Selangor is a team which has been together for many months but for us, we have a team from different clubs and they have to get together in such a short period of time.
“However, with the experience level of the players I selected, I believe that the players can gel quickly and put up a good show on that day.
“We are representing the nation and we definitely want to do well. I have Rafi Ali as my assistant coach and even some players from LionsXII and I hope it would be a sweet victory.”
Coaches in the league congratulated Amin for his appointment. Geylang International coach Jorg Steinebrunner in particular paid glowing praise to his former teammate.
“Credits to Ami, his appointment is fully justified,” the German shared.
“What he has done with Hougang this year, was already started last year. He came in and had a decent finishing before keeping the team together.
“He brought in some stability and you have to give it to him.”
