Geison Moura scored the only goal of the match as Hougang United eked out a 1-0 win over Albirex Niigata (S) to do a double over their opponents in the Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League this season.

Speaking after the match, Hougang coach Amin Nasir said he was pleased with the way his charges adhered to the game plan which saw them earn all three points.

“I’m glad our tactics worked. In fact, we have been studying Albirex’s tactical play for a while but I thought my boys stuck to the plan and that’s how we got the goal,” he enthused.

“I knew that if we allowed Albirex to take control they will punish us. It was a good result for us and good play from the entire team, I’m heartened for sure.”

The ex-international however refused to be carried away with the result and praised match-winner Moura for his contribution to the team.

“We need to carry on with this kind of performance. I told the boys we need to be together and I’m happy with not only the forwards but the whole team,” Amin said.

“If you look at Geison, he’s a forward but today’s game plan was different. We needed him to track back and help the midfield. I’m glad he stuck to the plan for the team’s purpose and it’s good to see him have the eye for goal in the attacking third which saw him score the winner.”

Albirex coach Tatsuyuki Okuyama meanwhile, expressed his disappointment with the result and lamented his side’s inability to find the killer pass.

“I’m very disappointed and not surprised with the result,” he said.

“As a team we have to pass the ball forward but from the first-half we could not do that. I’m frustrated and disappointed with our performance.

“I won’t change our tactics but for tonight, we could not do what we have done so far this season so I think that’s the main problem.”
