Daniel Ong bolsters Hougang United’s goalkeeping ranks
SINGAPORE, 24 AUGUST 2020 – Hougang United have made Daniel Ong their third signing of the mid-season transfer window in the 2020 AIA Singapore Premier League (SPL) .
The 31-year-old goalkeeper was announced as the Cheetahs’ latest recruit on their social media platforms earlier today and will bolster the club’s goalkeeping ranks.
Ong started his career at Balestier Khalsa in 2009, making his professional debut the same year. He made three more league appearances and two more in the League Cup before ending his stint at the Tigers in 2013 and moving on to Home United the following year. The custodian never made an appearance for Home but found more playing time at Warriors FC in 2015, where he completed 22 matches (18 league, two each in Singapore Cup and League Cup). Ong returned to Balestier for the 2016 season and played twice in the league before dropping down to the National Football League (NFL) Division 1 with Balestier United, where he spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

A move to fellow NFL Division 1 side Tiong Bahru FC culminated in a successful 2019 campaign as he helped them to win both the league title and FA Cup and Ong will look forward to potentially playing in the top flight again with Hougang for the remainder of this season.
Ong joins Lionel Tan and Emmeric Ong as new additions for Hougang, with the latter pair having signed in June and earlier this month respectively.
