DPMM Look To Halt Losing Streak
Courts Young Lions vs Brunei DPMM
(June 18, Wednesday, 7.30pm, Jalan Besar Stadium)
Written by: Muhammad Yazid
This is a game between title-chasers DPMM and Singapore’s development side Courts Young Lions in the Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League, and things may turn out great for the hosts.
DPMM are on a woeful run, having not tasted victories in four games. They have lost three of their last four games, notably against Warriors FC, Home United and subsequently Tampines Rovers. The run of losses seem to have affected morale as they could only drew with Geylang International in their last match.
However, the Young Lions will do best not to forget the 6-1 whooping they received at the reverse fixture early this season, as DPMM ran riot at the Hassanal Bolkiah National stadium then.
The Young Lions will do well to pay close attention to Rodrigo Tosi , who has been scoring goals for fun.
However, one can never discount the hosts. They have sprung up surprises in the league, and even earned a draw against Home United this season.
It is a must-win for the Wasps as anything less than that might result to them moving three spots down to fourth, with Warriors FC, Home United and Tampines Rovers being their closest rivals.
Sahil Suhaimi has been a revelation for his team since his return to the squad, and if he can sneak in a goal, there is no telling how this game may end up.
Key Men To Watch
Courts Young Lions: Shameer Aziq
He came on as a first-half substitute in the last game against Tanjong Pagar United and dazzled the right side of the pitch with his speed and almost pulled a goal back for his side with a header, despite him not being the tallest of players.
There would be no surprise if he starts the game against DPMM given his ability to work well with Canadian compatriots Jordan Webb and Sherif El-Masri, and skipper Sahil.
Brunei DPMM: Joe Gamble
The central midfield general is an expert when it comes to pulling his team together when defending and pushing the forwards and wingers to open spaces.
According to InStat, 92% of his passes were accurate, having won 75% of attacking challenges in one DPMM’s previous games.
