Eagles and Jaguars Battle For Table Lower Half’s Supremacy
Tanjong Pagar United vs Geylang International
(August 25, Monday, 7.30pm, Queenstown Stadium)
Written by: Muhammad Yazid
Tanjong Pagar United will entertain Geylang International at Queenstown Stadium on Monday evening as they seek to continue their climb up the Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League standings.
There are only two points separating both sides, with the Eagles sitting a spot above the Jaguars in eighth.
Both teams are on a high, especially the Jaguars after their 1-0 win over title challengers Tampines Rovers, and the Eagles overcoming Woodlands Wellington 2-0.
This clash would be the second last encounter before the second round of the season comes to an end, prior to the ‘half-round’ which will segregate the top and bottom half of the table respectively.
Mathematically, it is impossible for both teams to reach the top half of the table, but they would not throw in the towel, and will challenge themselves to finish the season as high as possible.
Expect a tough battle in midfield, as Tanjong Pagar midfielder Sebastien Etiemble would be looking to continue his box-to-box running antics, while the partnership of Franco Chivilo and Fabian Kwok would be trying to put a halt to it.’
The Jaguars may be on homeground, but their task will not be any easier with club’s top scroer Monsef Zerka and Ramdani Kamel both serving the last of their two-game suspension.
Suspensions: Monsef Zerka, Ramdani Kamel (both Tanjong Pagar)
Key Men To Watch
Tanjong Pagar United: Sebastien Etiemble
His solitary goal against Tampines awarded his side all three points and the luxury to leapfrog Woodlands and reach ninth place.
According to InStat, he relished 74% of accurate passes in the 2-1 loss to Home United weeks ago.
Geylang International: Ridhuan Muhammad
The skipper was involved in all the two goals Geylang put past Woodlands on Friday night, and was a ‘bullet train’ on the right flank.
He assisted Aliff Shafaein for the opening goal before adding his own name to the scoresheet in the second half with a cool finish.
