Geylang International vs Balestier Khalsa

(25 August, Thursday, 7.30pm, Bedok Stadium)

Geylang International will be looking for a win against Balestier Khalsa when the two meet at the Bedok Stadium on Thursday as the Eagles are eyeing for a top-three finish in the Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League.

The Eagles are currently in sixth spot on 25 points and are four points behind third-place Brunei DPMM with five matches to go in the campaign.

Coach Hasrin Jailani has called on his team to remain focus and claim maximum points in their remaining league matches.

“Every game from now is very important because we are trying to finish in third place. Hougang have it in their own hands, but for us we just have to keep winning games,” said Hasrin after their 2-0 win over Garena Young Lions in their previous league outing.

The Eagles dominated that match with Singapore international Gabriel Quak dominating the wings while Carlos Delgado stringing the passes in the middle of the park. Hasrin will be hoping the duo and the rest of his players continue their performance in their next match match against the Tigers.

Geylang have been in fine form in recent matches, with their only loss in the last five matches, a 2-1 reverse to title-chasing Tampines Rovers. The previous meetings between the two earlier in the season saw the first match ended in a goalless draw while the Eagles slayed the Tigers 3-1 in the next match.

For Balestier, they are languishing in eight-place in the nine-team league, managing only three wins all season in the league.

But despite their unfavourable position and recent losses, they played decently and is unfortunate not to have a predator in front of goal. That has been their main problem all season as their forwards are not banging in enough goals to propel them up the league’s table.

Coach Marko Kraljevic will certainly be hoping for his imports, Miroslav Kristic and Niko Tokic to be clinical against the Eagles if they are to end the season in a positive manner.
