SINGAPORE, 4 AUGUST 2020 – Hougang United have confirmed the addition of Emmeric Ong to their squad for the 2020 AIA Singapore Premier League (SPL) season.

The Cheetahs announced the news on their social media platforms earlier today. Ong, 29, had been without a club since former side Warriors FC was directed to sit out the current season. The versatile player, who can fill in at right-back, centre-back and defensive midfield, had also been out of action since suffering an anterior cruciate ligament tear last October.

Having worked hard to get fit enough to train again, the twice-capped Singapore international is now looking forward to contributing to the club where he was given his professional debut in 2011.

“I feel great to (get) back to where I started my professional career after 9 long years,” he told the club. “Hougang has always been my hometown club and I feel proud to be able to represent them again.

“I aim to get back to full fitness and to push for a spot in the team when the league resumes. The team has done very well last term and with the squad we have this year, I expect us to be up there challenging in every competition.”

Ong made 11 appearance for Hougang before moving on to the Courts Young Lions (2011 – 2013) and LionsXII (2014), before spending the past five seasons with the Warriors.

His signing is the second transfer that Hougang has made in the mid-season window, having recruited Lionel Tan in June.
