SINGAPORE, 9 APRIL 2021 – A quartet of AIA Singapore Premier League (SPL) matches have been brought forward from May to this month.
The changes have been made in agreement with all eight SPL clubs and will allow the Singapore Men’s National Team to commence preparations earlier for the FIFA window in June, where they will play their remaining three Group D matches of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ and Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup 2023 Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 2 in Saudi Arabia.
The matches, which were all slated to be played on 19 May as part of Round 10 of the 2021 season, have been rescheduled to 24 and 25 April to make up Round 8, as follows:
Round | Day | Date | Home Team | Away Team | Stadium | Kick-off |
8 | Sat | 24 Apr | Hougang United | Lion City Sailors | Hougang | 8.30pm |
Tanjong Pagar United | Tampines Rovers | Jurong East | 8.30pm
Sun | 25 Apr | Balestier Khalsa | Albirex Niigata (S) | Toa Payoh | 8.30pm
Young Lions | Geylang International | Jalan Besar | 8.30pm |
From 24 April onwards, up to 250 fans will also be allowed to enter match venues to watch in person without the need for any testing, as per guidelines announced by the COVID-19 Multi-Ministry Taskforce on 24 March.
SPL fans will still be able to watch every match LIVE on broadcast at Singtel TV, StarHub TV and live streaming online via the SPL Facebook page and YouTube channel, as well as the Facebook page of 1 Play Sports. Taking into account the fluid nature of the current situation regarding the Asian Football Confederation competition fixtures, further changes may be expected to the SPL schedule.
