SINGAPORE, 15 OCTOBER 2020 – Geylang International have strengthened their rearguard with the signing of Adam Hakeem for the 2020 AIA Singapore Premier League (SPL) season.
The Eagles confirmed the 23-year-old centre-back’s arrival earlier today on their social media platforms, marking a return to the club for their former Under-16 captain.
Eagles head coach Mohd Noor Ali said: “He has represented Singapore at youth level and will be a key part of our team as we look to fight for honours with the season kicking off on Sunday.”
Adam is the second player to arrive at Geylang this month, with midfielder Safirul Sulaiman having made the move from Tampines Rovers earlier. The Eagles also announced in the same post that midfielder Nasrul Taib, who joined in August as their first recruit of the mid-season transfer window, has departed the club due to “personal reasons”. Noor Ali said: “We thank Nasrul for his time here. He has impressed in training and is a huge loss to the team. But we wish him well for his future endeavours.”
The eldest son of former Singapore captain Nazri Nasir, Adam came through the National Football Academy but went four years without seeing competitive action at any level until his professional debut with the Young Lions in 2018. He made 12 appearances in the SPL and scored once before enlisting for NS the following year.
Geylang resume their 2020 campaign this Sunday with an away trip to face the Lion City Sailors at Bishan.
