SINGAPORE, 16 JULY 2021 – Geylang International have added midfielder Danny Kim to their squad ahead of the second half of the 2021 AIA Singapore Premier League (SPL) season.

The Eagles announced earlier today the arrival of the Australia-born 23-year-old, who most recently was on the books of A-League side Brisbane Roar. Kim, who made eight league appearances for the Roar across the past two seasons, mutually terminated his contract with the club at the end of May. A former international at Under-17 level for Australia, the defensive player vacates the foreigner slot left by Sylvano Comvalius and will wear the number four.

“I’m super excited to be joining Geylang International and I cannot wait to step out onto the field with my new teammates,” Kim said in a club statement. “Hopefully with a couple of good results, we can push our way back up the table.”

Head coach Mohd Noor Ali added: “Danny is a very promising player and has played an influential midfield role in the clubs he has played for. We look forward to having him in our team and creating an impact when the season resumes.”

Club news: Geylang – Kim completes move to Eagles

Kim is the son of former South Korean international right-back Kim Pan-Keun, who made his debut at 17 years and 242 days – still the youngest ever for the country – and went on to play in the 1994 FIFA World Cup in a career that spanned 51 caps. The younger Kim is a product of the now-defunct Football Federation of Australia’s Centre of Excellence and his first encounter with the Roar came in 2016, when he played for their youth side in the second-tier National Premier Leagues. The Queensland native then moved on to Hume City and then Lions FC, where he would be loaned to Roar’s first-team in 2020. After impressing during his five appearances in the A-League, Roar completed a permanent transfer for Kim and he made three appearances during the 2020-2021 season as they finished fourth.

Kim, who will be the first Australian to turn out for Geylang since Corey Warren Cuelho in April 2019, will aim to help the side improve on their current sixth place in the league. The Eagles will take on Balestier Khalsa in their next match on 25 July at Our Tampines Hub.
