The 23-year-old attacker’s supreme form was a key reason for Albirex Niigata FC (S)’s title triumph last as he smashed in 11 goals and made three assists in 14 appearances. Only Stipe Plazibat scored more (14) than the Japanese, who also registered both the most shots (83) and shots on target (43) of any player in the league.

The 1.79m Hyogo native is the Cheetahs’ fifth new signing after Mukundan Maran, Kaishu Yamazaki, Afiq Yunos and Idraki Adnan, and will add serious firepower to a side that scored just 19 times last season – the fourth-lowest tally among the eight teams. Doi failed to score or assist in just one out of his 14 matches, scored the joint-most number of headers (3, same as Barry Maguire) and provided the assist for Ryoya Taniguchi’s title-clinching goal on the final day.
The Tokoha University graduate started playing at five and a stellar maiden professional season with the White Swans saw him nominated for the Player of the Year gong, which was won by Gabriel Quak. His ability to speak English should see him settle quickly at Hougang, who will hope to improve on last year’s sixth-place finish.
