SINGAPORE, 24 JANUARY 2022 – The Lion City Sailors have made Brazilian defender Pedro Henrique their second foreign signing for the 2022 AIA Singapore Premier League (SPL) season.

The reigning champions announced the arrival of the centre-back, 29, today from Portuguese top-flight side Vitória Guimarães for an undisclosed fee. The Goiânia native, who stands at 1.9 metres, has signed a three-year contract.

Henrique joins fellow Brazilian Diego Lopes at the club as well as fellow new arrivals Kim Shin-wook, Izwan Mahbud and M. Anumanthan as the Sailors continue to reinforce their squad ahead of their maiden Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League (ACL) campaign later this year.

“I’m looking forward to working with Diego, and club head coach, Kim Do-hoon who won the ACL as recently as 2020,” he said in a club statement. “With so many of the squad having international experience with the Singapore team, I’m confident we will grow to be a team to be reckoned with.”

Head Coach Kim added: “Pedro comes with qualities that will help the team improve even further. We are very clear that we must work to become competitive at the Asian level, and I’m confident that Pedro will help us on our journey.”

With over 150 appearances for Vitória Guimarães since joining them in 2015, Henrique boasts fine European pedigree. He also had a spell at Saudi Arabia’s Al-Wehda in 2021 and will further reinforce the league’s second-best defence last season.
