Home United will host Brunei DPMM in the first leg of their RHB Singapore Cup semi-final, but there will be more at stake here than gaining advantage ahead of the return leg.

Both teams are still competing for the league’s title, and every result from hereon will impact either team mentally. A big convincing win for either team will go a long way in instilling confidence, and send a statement that they are ready for the fight down to the wire to be crowned Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League champions.

There is also the added incentive of silverware. DPMM will want to assert its authority as the best team this season by sweeping all remaining trophies available, with the StarHub league cup already in the bag.

It will be hard to say who will come up on top, but Home currently trump the Bruneian side 2:1 this season. The Protectors avenged a 3-0 loss at home with back-to-back wins at DPMM’s homeground. The last game both sides played was incidentally with each other too, with Home taking a 2-1 win.

It is pretty hard to see DPMM losing in consecutive games, and there will be no doubt coach Steve Kean will have properly prepared his guys for Home United.

Home possess probably one of the best attacking qualities in the league, but Boris Raspudic and company at the back are not easy to get past as well. One way Home definitely should not look to attack DPMM will be via aerial battles, as DPMM’s players are extremely comfortable with the ball in the air.

Home have no suspended players, while DPMM will be missing Joe Gamble.
