2021 SPL Awards – April: Lion City Sailors and Albirex Niigata (S) share the spoils

SINGAPORE, 6 MAY 2021 – Perhaps buoyed by the presence of spectators, albeit in a limited capacity, the month of April saw some outstanding performances in the 2021 AIA Singapore Premier League.

Our judging panel had a tough time picking the winners but after some difficult choices, we present to you April’s recipients below!

The Winners

Player of the Month

Stipe Plazibat added five goals to his tally during April, including a four-game consecutive scoring streak, and also laid on four assists to top the assists chart with five. The Croatian hotshot’s consistent form as both scorer and creator propelled the Lion City Sailors to second in the league table, just three points behind leaders Albirex Niigata (S).

Young Player of the Month

With two consecutive hat-tricks in the last two matches, Kiyoshiro Tsuboi was unstoppable in front of goal for Albirex Niigata (S) and also chipped in with two assists as the White Swans maintained their unbeaten run to stay top.

Coach of the Month

Keiji Shigetomi has earned accolades for the White Swans’ consistent performances this month as they continue to cement top spot in the league, having dropped points only to fellow title contender Lion City Sailors.

Gabriel Quak’s outrageous first-time volley for the Lion City Sailors topped a pile of high-quality goals, including Diego Lopes’ dipping strike. The in-form Singapore winger timed his run into the box perfectly to meet a cross with his wand of a left foot and guided the ball into the top right corner. Simply brilliant.
