2026/27 Singapore Premier League Matchweek 2: Roundup

SINGAPORE, 21 SEPTEMBER 2026 – FC Jurong and Geylang International dispatched Hougang United and the Young Lions respectively to maintain their perfect starts, while Tanjong Pagar United recorded their first win of the 2026/27 Singapore Premier League (SPL) season ahead of the international break. We recap all the action here…

FC Jurong romp to consecutive wins
FC Jurong 3-0 Hougang | Jurong East | 18 September | Takuma Yamaguchi 23’, Haziq Kamarudin 45+7’, Mizuki Ando 72’

Jurong took the lead midway through the first half, with Yamaguchi finishing Toa Suenaga’s deft pass with aplomb. Suenaga then turned provider again, setting up Haziq for a cross-shot that beat Hougang goalkeeper Takahiro Koga at his near post to give Jurong a two-goal lead at the break. Substitute Ando then rounded off the victory just three minutes after his introduction, calmly guiding Yuma Tsuzurabara’s square pass into the bottom corner.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 76th minute after captain Zulqarnaen Suzliman was dismissed for a last-man offence. There was still time for former AC Milan and Japan midfielder Keisuke Honda to make his Jurong debut, coming on for Tsuzurabara with eight minutes remaining.

  • Zulqarnaen Suzliman was shown the first red card of his professional career.

Tanjong Pagar edge seven-goal thriller
Balestier 3-4 Tanjong Pagar | Bishan | 19 September | Bill Mamadou 8’, Tin Matic 89’, Marin Kuzminski 90+1’ | Yuki Aizu 35’, Lazar Vujanic 49’, 56’, Boris Kopitovic pen. 90+14’

With seven goals and three red cards, there was plenty of drama at Bishan.

Bill Mamadou fired Balestier into an early lead with a low shot after Tanjong Pagar failed to clear a corner, but the defender was sent off following a VAR review for an off-the-ball incident just minutes later. The Jaguars restored parity through Aizu’s left-footed effort before former Balestier man Vujanic struck twice in quick succession to put the visitors 3-1 up. Tanjong Pagar’s Jared Gallagher and Balestier’s Fudhil I’yadh were then shown red in the closing stages, before Tin Matic pulled one back and Kuzminski appeared to have rescued a point for the home side with a late equaliser.

But there was still one more twist to come. Balestier’s Yushin Otake was adjudged to have fouled Masahiro Sugita in the box, allowing former Tampines Rovers forward Kopitovic to step up and convert the resulting penalty in second-half stoppage time to seal all three points for the Jaguars.

Facts

  • Tanjong Pagar recorded their first win over Balestier in all competitions since September 2022, when they beat the Tigers 3-1.
  • Bill Mamadou scored his first SPL goal and was shown his first SPL red card in the same game.
