SINGAPORE, 20 JANUARY 2023 – The Lion City Sailors today confirmed the signing of Christopher van Huizen, who becomes their eighth new recruit for the 2023 Singapore Premier League (SPL) season.

Van Huizen, 30, moves on after spending 2022 with Tampines Rovers, where he scored thrice and made two assists in 27 appearances across all competitions. “It took me quite a while to decide on my next club and the Sailors have always been on my mind since the club started in 2020,” he told the Sailors website. “There are massive ambitions to go to the next level, so it’s one of my biggest dreams to come true to now call myself a Lion City Sailor.”

Capped 13 times by Singapore, Van Huizen will enter his 10th professional season after making his debut in 2014 with Tampines. A winger by trade, he has adapted his game to become a full-back in recent times and is famed for his crossing ability with both feet.

Van Huizen follows in the footsteps of Shawal Anuar, Rusyaidi Salime, Zharfan Rohaizad, Abdul Rasaq, Danish Qayyum, Kodai Tanaka and Lionel Tan in joining the Sailors for 2023.
