17 FEBRUARY 2022 – There’s a new Brazilian star in town and he will suit up for Hougang United in the 2022 AIA Singapore Premier League (SPL) season.

Attacking midfielder André Moritz, perhaps best remembered for his time at English side Crystal Palace, was confirmed earlier today by the Cheetahs as their latest arrival. Described as a “tantalising addition” by the club, the 35-year-old has penned a one-year contract and will wear the number 30.

Born in Florianópolis, Moritz started his career in Avai’s youth team and moved on to Internacional, where he made his professional debut in 2006. Moritz is fondly remembered by Palace fans for playing an integral part in their 2012/13 Championship campaign, where he scored five times and made three assists as they earned promotion after winning the play-offs.

He spent the following season with Bolton Wanderers and then had his first taste of Asia with Mumbai City in India, on loan from Korean side Pohang Steelers. Moritz would eventually play for Steelers and Buriram United before heading back to Europe with Turkey’s Denizlispor, having previously spent time in the country between 2007 to 2012 with three different clubs. In 2018, he returned home and played for three different Brazilian sides before relocating to Singapore.

Moritz will join Kaishu Yamazaki, Pedro Bortoluzo and Kristijan Krajček as Hougang’s foreign quartet for the SPL.
