Geylang sign midfielder Nasrul Taib

SINGAPORE, 21 AUGUST 2020 – Former Hougang United midfielder Nasrul Taib has joined Geylang International for the remainder of the 2020 AIA Singapore Premier League (SPL) season.

The Eagles announced the signing on their social media platforms yesterday night, noting that the 22-year-old has been recruited after spending the past two years on the sidelines due to National Service (NS) commitments.

Head coach Mohd Noor Ali said: “In view of Joshua (Pereira) and Noor (Ariff)’s departure due to NS, I have brought in Nasrul to strengthen our Under-23 base. Nasrul can play in midfield and in defence. He is an aggressive player with good build, and is comfortable on the ball. I believe he will be a good addition to the team.”

The versatile player turned out for the now-defunct National Football Academy (NFA) U-17s before making the move to Hougang, where he captained their Prime League side and picked up both the Player of the Year and Player’s Player of the Year awards in 2017. Nasrul then made his professional debut in September 2018, completing the entire game in a 2-0 home loss to Tampines Rovers in the league. He made two more appearances before serving his NS.
