Hougang United to contest AFC Cup 2022 group matches in Ho Chi Minh City

Hougang United line-up, 27 February 2022

4 MARCH 2022 – Hougang United will travel to Vietnam this June to play in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup 2022™ group stage.

The AFC confirmed earlier today that Ho Chi Minh City will serve as the centralised venue for Group I, which comprises V.League 1 runners up Viettel, Cambodian champions Phnom Penh Crown and Cambodia’s Young Elephants.

The Cheetahs are set to make their second appearance at Asia’s second-tier club competition and matches will be played in a single round-robin format between 24 June and 30 June.

Singapore’s other representative, Tampines Rovers, had been confirmed last week to play in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Due to the withdrawal of Myanmar’s clubs, the Stags will face only Malaysia Cup winners Kuala Lumpur City and Indonesia’s PSM Makassar in Group H.

Both groups are part of the ASEAN Zone, along with Group J. The three group winners, along with the best runner-up, will advance to the zonal semi-finals.
