A seven-time Singapore international, Iqbal became the first Singaporean player to appear in India’s top flight when he made the move to Chennai after ending the 2020 SPL season with Geylang International. Between December 2020 to March this year, the attacker scored three goals and made two assists in 10 matches to help his side avoid relegation.

Balestier will become the fifth SPL club in Iqbal’s career, with the National Football Academy graduate having started his career in 2012 with Gombak United, before going on to turn out for the Young Lions, Hougang United and Geylang. His addition will boost the Tigers, who are fifth out of eight teams after 10 games in the SPL standings.
