The one-match suspension issued to Young Lions goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud has been rescinded with immediate effect, following a thorough review by the Refereeing Technical Panel (RTP).
This decision comes after an official protest lodged by the club regarding Izwan’s sending off in the 22nd minute of the Singapore Premier League 2025/26 match against BG Tampines Rovers on Friday, 16 January 2026.
Review and findings
The Panel, chaired by Mr John Chia, conducted a review of the incident, and after examining video footage, unanimously determined that while there may have been minimal contact made by Izwan on BG Tampines Rovers’ Hide Higashikawa in the 22nd minute of play, any contact made would not have been sufficient to cause the player to fall to the ground as observed.
Therefore, the appropriate action should have been to allow play to proceed, not call for a foul and issue a red card.
Outcome
In accordance with Article 71.6.2 of the Singapore Premier League 2025/26 Regulations, which allows for review in cases involving obvious error, the following actions will be taken:
- The one-match suspension imposed on Izwan Mahbud has been rescinded with immediate effect.
- The red card issued during the match shall remain on record, as per standard competition procedures.
The Football Association of Singapore remains committed to upholding the integrity of the game and ensuring that all decisions are guided by fairness, transparency, and the Laws of the Game. Following the review of the incident, appropriate corrective action has been taken with the match official concerned.
