SINGAPORE, 9 SEPTEMBER, 2026 – The Singapore Premier League (SPL), Singapore football’s top flight, will kick off its 30th year with a $1 million prize pot for the 2026/27 season, alongside a series of new initiatives that increase the stakes across the competition and bring fans closer to the action. The prize pot will increase by 67 per cent from $600,000, with greater rewards up for grabs for clubs across the league table.
The League has also partnered with Hawk-Eye Innovations, a Sony Group company, to provide Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology across the eight SPL clubs and all SPL matches. The enhanced VAR set-up will include dedicated goal-line cameras and virtual offside line technology.
FAS General Secretary Badri Ghent said: “As we enter the SPL’s 30th year, we want to raise the bar for what our league can be. The changes announced today are about creating more meaningful competition across the table, rewarding performance, and raising standards both on and off the pitch. These are important steps in our longer-term work to strengthen the league and position the SPL for continued growth in the years ahead.”
New $1 million prize pot, with the biggest gains for mid-table finishers
Total SPL prize money will increase from $600,000 to $1 million for the 2026/27 season — a 67 per cent rise.
While the champions will see a 25 per cent increase to $250,000 in cash rewards, teams in the second to sixth position will see their prize purse jump from 53 per cent to 120 per cent. The second runner-up team will see the biggest boost, with the prize money increasing from $100,000 to $220,000.
The revised prize structure is designed to create greater incentives for clubs to compete for higher positions throughout the season, rather than focusing solely on the title. By increasing the rewards across the table, the SPL aims to encourage consistently high-quality performances and strengthen competition across the league, giving clubs more to play for and fans more to follow as the season unfolds.

New partnerships bring the SPL closer to fans
The SPL has partnered with Hawk-Eye Innovations, a Sony group company, to introduce a full suite of centralised Video Assistant Referee (VAR) services — the same technology trusted by leagues including the English Premier League, Italy’s Serie A, France’s Ligue 1, and the Dutch Eredivisie, as well as FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
The multi-year agreement, enabled by Sony Singapore, begins with the 2026/27 season and will see all four SPL venues equipped with Referee Review Areas, dedicated Goal Line Cameras, and a centralised VAR Replay Centre, operated by IFAB-approved officials and Hawk-Eye technical specialists.
Powered by Hawk-Eye’s proprietary Synchronised Multi-Angle Replay Technology (SMART), the enhanced set-up — implemented from this Sunday’s Community Shield — brings greater precision to match-defining moments. The system’s VARdict feature delivers real-time decision updates simultaneously to in-stadium screens, broadcasts, and digital platforms, giving fans clarity on what’s being reviewed and why, while two high frame-rate Goal Line Cameras per venue allow officials to review penalty box and goal-line incidents in super slow motion.
Officiating and matchday standards will also receive a fresh look this season, with adidas unveiling the new official referee kit and match ball for the SPL. Match officials will wear the dedicated kit this season, while the new ball is used across both competitions.
The 2026/27 SPL season begins on Friday, 11 September, with Tampines Rovers hosting Balestier Khalsa at Our Tampines Hub to open Matchweek 1. For the full list of SPL fixtures, please refer to this link.
