Brunei DPMM vs Warriors FC
(Friday, 19 August, 8.15pm, Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium)
Brunei DPMM will look to cement their place in the upper echelons of the Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League when they host fallen giants Warriors FC at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium on Friday night.
The defending champions saw their hopes of retaining their title dissipated after a run of poor results in the earlier part of the season, but have hit a purple patch in recent games and will be keen to salvage their campaign by clinching a place in the top three.
The Wasps have lost only once in their last five games in all competitions thus far and are currently on a two-match unbeaten run in the league. The Bruneians have also a good home record, losing only twice this season so far.
In contrast, Warriors have not won a league game since June and have not beaten DPMM in two league meetings this season. To make matters worse, they will be facing the Wasps without two key players in Nikola Rak and Madhu Mohana because of suspension.
Warriors coach Razif Onn has an uphill task of lifting his players’ moral and has so far yet to find the right formula to ignite a spark in them to prevent the nine-times S.League champions from finishing in the bottom half of the table this season.
The Choa Chu Kang-based club have also no trophies to fight for this season, having been knocked out of the RHB Singapore Cup and The New Paper League Cup, and are left with only their pride to play for.
