SINGAPORE, 27 AUGUST 2022 – Balestier Khalsa have named Peter de Roo as their interim head coach for the current AIA Singapore Premier League (SPL) season.
The Dutchman, 52, will step into the shoes of Akbar Nawas, whose resignation was accepted last week and will oversee his final match tomorrow evening against Tampines Rovers. De Roo, an Amsterdam native, will take charge of his first training session next Monday.
A club statement read: “He is a driven coach with over 30 years of experience in professional football, and a demonstrated proven track record of successfully implementing vision, philosophy and practice both at youth and senior elite levels.”

A former professional footballer, De Roo’s most recent role was with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) as their technical director. Appointed in July 2017 before starting work in September that year, he left the job at the end of 2020. Prior to that, he was technical director at SC Cambuur in his first non-playing role, before moving to Football Federation Australia Centre of Excellence. There, he oversaw the Australian Under-16 and Under-17 national teams in 2012, helping the latter to qualify for the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup.
With seven matches left in the current season, the Tigers sit seventh out of eight teams with 20 points from 21 matches. They have won six and lost 13 times, and are eight points behind sixth-placed Hougang United.
