Prime League: Geylang Claim First Win
Written by: Muhammad Yazid
After remaining point-less for seven games in the Great Eastern Yeo’s Prime League season, Geylang International have finally received their first few points of the season following a comfortable 2-0 victory over Balestier Khalsa, with the aid of two goals in three minutes in the second half.
It was Fuad Ramli who broke the late deadlock in the 76th minute before Hyder Ismail put Geylang in the comfort zone two minutes later with a goal to his name.
Although they are still four points behind second-from-bottom Hougang United, the Eagles have a game in hand and a win would put them only a single point away from the Cheetahs.
Over at the Woodlands stadium on the same day, an action-packed encounter between 10-man Woodlands Wellington and Warriors FC could only result to a solitary goal, which went in favour for the visitors.
Suria Prakash’s penalty in the 74th minute was enough to present his team with all three points, as they rise up to second on the table, leaving Woodlands to remain at sixth.
Elsewhere, bottom-half-of-the-table dwellers Tampines Rovers and Tanjong Pagar United match was called off due to inclement weather.
