Prime League: Protectors Maintain Top Spot, Warriors Down Stags
Written by: Muhammad Yazid
Home United have extended their lead at the top of the table after a 3-2 comeback victory over Tanjong Pagar United.
Goals from Afiq Sharil and Lucas Jester were cancelled out by a brace from Herman Osman, before Nurhalis Azman clinched the crucial winner eight minutes from time.
It was the same scoreline at the Clementi Stadium where Tampines Rovers hosted Warriors FC and it was the Warriors who went a goal down twice before storming back to take home all three points.
Cameron Bell put the Stags in the driving seat in the 14th minute but Suria Prakash equalised three minutes later.
Taufik Suparno’s penalty three minutes after the interval rewarded them with the lead once again but Zulfadhil Emran and Amin Rossady scored back-to-back goals in the 53rd and 71st minute respectively.
In the northern district, a solitary goal by S.League player Sobrie Mazelan in the 29th minute awarded them a victory against the Singapore Cubs.
A narrow scoreline was also present at the Toa Payoh stadium as an early strike by Ahmad Syahir after just two minutes of play gave Balestier Khalsa a victory over Hougang United.
It could not have been a more exciting affair as the National Football Academy’s U17 and U18 locked horns. The juniors created an upset over their senior counterparts by thumping them 6-3.
Joshua Bernard Pereira’s brace cancelled out Iqram Rifqi’s brace before Karthik Raj gave the U17’s the lead before half-time.
Zulfadhli Suzliman made it all squared two minutes after the break, but Joshua completed his hat-trick, and subsequent goals from Shah Zulkarnean and Zulkhair Mustaffa sent the U17s into raptures.
