Prime League: Home Remains at Summit; Big Win For NFA U17

Written by: Phoon Jia Hui

Another week in the Great Eastern Yeo’s Prime League, another win for Home United.

The Protectors snatched a last-gasp 3-2 win over Tampines Rovers at the Clementi Stadium, thanks to Yeo Hgai Ngee’s 87th-minute winner as they extended their winning run.

Tampines captain Cameron Bell scored after just ten minutes but strikes from Syahiran Miswan and Shaheer Afiq midway through the first-half handed Home the advantage. Bell then leveled matters shortly after the hour mark but Yeo was the hero of the night as he popped up to seal three points for Home.

The National Football Academy (NFA) U17 were however the biggest winners of Week 2 when they romped to a 5-1 win over Geylang International despite falling behind first.

Syafiq Iderus gave the Eagles a shock first-half lead and that drew a fierce response from the home side after the break. Amiruldin Asraf equalized on the hour mark before a brace each from Andin Addie and Zulkhair Mustaffa rounded off the victory.

After edging the NFA U17 with a 1-0 win last week, Tanjong Pagar United lost to Woodlands Wellington by the exact same scoreline as Khairul Ariffin’s goal on 29 minutes was enough for the Rams to earn maximum points.

Meanwhile, Singapore Cubs were held to a 1-all draw by Hougang United at Jurong West Stadium.

Hazim Faiz netted for the second game running but Hougang’s Noor Faridzuan equalised in the 65th minute as the honours stayed even, with the Cheetahs remaining winless after two games.

There was only one match in Week 2 which failed to see a goal scored with Warriors FC and NFA U18 sharing the spoils in a goalless draw at the Bukit Gombak Stadium.
