Geylang International held DPMM to a 1-1 draw at Bedok Stadium on Friday evening and the Eagles coach has expressed his happiness at the rate his side were improving since he took over.
After losing three consecutive games, current Geylang coach Jorg Steinebrunner has led his side to four points from two games and the tactician was adamant his side’s hard work in training was yielding dividends.
“Since the last one week I have taken over, the boys have showed a lot of determination in training sessions and that is paying off in the games now,” Steinebrunner said.
“We played one of the top teams, then maybe one week ago the whole club was in turmoil, you know zero point, two goals score, conceded nine goals,” he continued, “Now the last two games we scored two conceded one.
Steinebrunner was also pleased with his team’s defence, and stated his belief that such defensive performances were the basis of getting good results.
“You play against a team like DPMM who scored a lot of goals and is known for scoring goals and creating lots of chances and today we minimalised the chances they created so I think today credit to the whole team we made another step forward,” Steineburnner shared.
DPMM coach Steven Kean admitted Geylang played well to deny his team maximum points although DPMM had a really good chance at the end of the game to score the winner.
“I thought we were better in the second half but in the first half, credit to Jorg and his team, they set up a good system and stretched us and caused us some problems. But in the second half we matched up the system and were probably unlucky to not score towards the end with Roy O’Donovan’s effort,” Kean said.
However, Kean was far from pleased that his side fell further behind current league leaders even the draw was probably a fair result.
“We are disappointed because we dropped points last week against Tampines when we felt we were better in that game, and we were looking to take all three points tonight but you always give credit to the opposition when they play well and I thought Geylang played very well tonight,” he said.
Kean is now looking to gain maximum points from the next two games which DPMM will play at home, and the former Blackburn Rovers manager hoped that Rodrigo Tosi will be able to feature in the those games after the midfielder was substituted off due to an injury.
“He’s been scoring goals at the games but unfortunately he picked up an injury tonight but you know the good thing about Rodrigo is that he can play as a striker and as a number 1, technically he is very excellent so we hope he won’t be out for too long.”
