Courts Young Lions earned their fourth win of the season after edging Hougang United 2-1 at Jalan Besar Stadium on Saturday evening, and coach Aide Iskandar was full of praise for his team.
“Credit to my boys. It was important to get the three points,” he stated.
“It was not a good outing against Warriors but we have bounced back with a good performance. This is what we wanted.
“We came here with a game plan and the boys stuck to it. I am also happy that we kept things tight at the back.
“My boys have gained confidence morally and this would help us in our next game against Home United, who are challenging for the title.”
The former international skipper then went on to talk about his opponents.
“Hougang is my old team so that somehow gives me an advantage because I know most of the players there,” he shared.
“They did well and made it difficult for us. Credits to Amin Nasir although he was not present. He has done well for them to be in the top six.”
Hougang’s team manager, Nicholas Low meanwhile represented the team at the post-match press conference and referred to the evening as an off-day.
“It was just not a good day in the office,” he lamented.
“We struggled to contain some of the players with their pace and they got the better of us unfortunately.
“There was a lack in off-the-ball running and the first half was bad but we managed to rectify it and come back in the second.”
Low was however pleased with his team’s attitude during the game.
“I am impressed that the boys were fighting no matter what,” he said. “Even on a bad day, they fought till the end and we could see from the disappointment on their faces that they knew they could have done better.”
