Courts Young Lions and Harimau Muda walked away with a point each as both sides failed to hit the back of the net in a Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League game at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Sunday evening.
It was a tight game with chances few and far between, and none of which even came close to breaking the deadlock.
Both teams were struggling to get to the final third and attackers had to rely on a lapse in concentration by defenders create openings.
It took some time for both teams to settle down into the game, with the Lightning Warning System disrupting the momentum 12 minutes in.
After both sides returned to the pitch 15 minutes later, Sherif El-Masri had his best opportunity of the night, executing a half-volley which bounced wide of the post, before Shameer Aziq’s one-on-one effort was saved by Ilham Amirullah.
Sherif then started and nearly finished a move, after playing a one-two with his compatriot Jordan Webb before forcing Ilham to a low save as Sherif aimed for the far post.
The forward then saw his free kick sail over the bar minutes later.
The Young Tigers came the closest to scoring only 70 minutes into the game as Shahrul Igwan danced his way into the danger area before releasing a low shot which rolled inches wide.
Shameer then saw an effort deflected for a corner fifteen minutes before full-time, as his side continued to probe at any openings they could get.
With ten minutes to go, Nur Na’iim Ishak saw his free-kick curl a whisker away from the upright as the game became littered with mis-passes and poor controls before the referee called it a day.
With a point for each team, Harimau failed to draw level on points with Young Lions while the latter are now three points away from their closest competitors, Tanjong Pagar United.
