Tampines Rovers coach V. Sundramoorthy admitted that his side will now have to rely on other teams to stand any chance of lifting the S.League trophy at the end of the season.
The Stags dropped two valuable points on Monday evening after being held by Warriors FC in a stalemate.
They now trail league leaders Brunei DPMM by five points, although they still have a game in hand.
“The result was very disappointing,” Sundram said. “We need favours from other teams now. I hope Geylang (International) can do something and make the league interesting until the final day.
“The boys definitely tried very hard, but I’m not going to fault them. For us, we have been excellent – the whole week the boys have the desire, they wanted to win this game, but this is football.
“Sometimes you want it very badly, things can go away. We hit the post twice and some chances we didn’t make it. But more or less, we will just put our heads up and start to fight again.”
Sundram also praised his opponents for the way they managed to keep his forwards at bay.
“Warriors, we have to give credit to them,” Sundram said.
“They stayed tight; they worked hard, even though they were missing one or two key players.”
DPMM will now play Geylang International on Tuesday, before they take on Warriors on Friday.
However, Warriors caretaker coach Razif Onn stated that he is not looking to do any favours for any team, and instead just want his side to do their best and win their remaining matches.
“We are not looking to do any teams any favour…. If the result favour them, that’s good for them but we will just play all out to get the three points,” Razif said.
“I think we played much better [tonight] than in the defeat to Albirex.
“Anything can happen in football… hopefully we will come back when we play against DPMM this Friday.”
