Warriors FC coach Alex Weaver declared his pleasure at how his side came back from a goal down to put four goals past Courts Young Lions in the Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League encounter on Wednesday evening.
Five minutes into the match Jordan Webb slammed the ball home, shocking the hosts as the visitors took the lead. However, Nicholas Velez grabbed a hat-trick while Hafiz Rahim added one as the Warriors saw off the brave challenge of the visitors.
Weaver revealed during the post-match press interview that he was more annoyed about conceding a careless goal as opposed to being worried about going behind so early in the game.
“Yes it was a little bit of disappointment the way we conceded the first goal, but I was always confident with attacking players that we had that we were going to create chances and score goals,” Weaver said.
The team did score the goals, but Weaver was more pleased with how his side worked together, especially from the front to midfield to prevent Young Lions from having spaces.
“The lads responded very well, it was pleasing, some of the pressing in midfield and from the front was exceptional tonight. I was very proud of the way they implemented some of the things that we wanted them to do,”
Weaver’s counterpart, Aide Iskandar, was adamant after the game that the scoreline flattered the Warriors, but admitted that his team had it coming for their errors.
“Definitely the result doesn’t reflect the performance,” Aide asserted.
“We started brightly, got the goal, but unfortunately due to a lapse of concentration we gave Warriors a chance to come back. if you look carefully, it was due to our mistakes.”
While the Young Lions coach also lamented how the state of the pitch affected his side’s game, Aide added that his developing charges have to learn to cope with such situations in the future.
“I have to be fair to the boys, the pitch is unplayable actually. The condition is not suitable to our game style, but at the end of the day the boys have to learn. If you want to play you need to adapt to different conditions,” he shared.
