Young Lions Keen On Reaching Jaguars’ Spot

Tanjong Pagar United vs Courts Young Lions

(June 12, Thursday, 7.30pm, Queenstown Stadium)

Two teams in similar situations prepare for a clash at the Queenstown Stadium, as Tanjong Pagar United take on Courts Young Lions.

Aide Iskandar’s charges are currently sitting second from bottom with one game in hand and four points away from the Jaguars, who are third from bottom.

All eyes are set to be on the Young Lions as a win against the Jaguars will reduce the gap to just one point.

It is also high-time they get back to their winning ways if they are keen to climb up the rungs of the table.

The Young Lions’ last victory was an impressive 3-0 one over Hougang United, and that was only their second  win of the season.

On the other hand, Tanjong Pagar have been experiencing a string of inconsistent results.

Just as when they thought they had turned the corner in the Singapore Cup after a 1-0 win over Hougang United, the Jaguars proceeded to lose again to Balestier Khalsa.

But they bounced back in the next game as they beat Woodlands Wellington 2-0, after being winless in the league for close to three months.

Prior to that win, the last time they claimed a victory was only against this very side they are facing this Thursday, as they narrowly beat Aide Iskandar’s side 3-2 .

Expect Sahil Suhaimi’s trademark mazy runs to cause trouble in the Tanjong Pagar defence led by skipper Ahmad Latiff, who would be looking to put a halt to the Cubs’ nuisance and claim their second consecutive and fourth win of the season.

Key Men To Watch

Tanjong Pagar United: Aurelien Herisson

Herisson executed up to seven saves to deny Woodlands Wellington a goal as his side beat the Rams 2-0 in their last game.

The giant in between the posts will be looking to add another clean sheet to his accounts, having already gotten two in his last three games.

The Brazilian-born French custodian also has an eye for long passes, as 88% of his passes including goal-kicks were accurate in the game against Balestier Khalsa, according to InStats.

Courts Young Lions: Sahil Suhaimi

He had three glorious opportunities to score in his last game against Geylang International, but failed.

Give him a couple more of chances in the upcoming game and the chances of him converting them would be high, as Sahil will be longing to add to his goal tally of five goals.
