The Singapore international, 28, is the third new signing for the Sailors, who announced the S$3 million transfer of Diego Lopes on Wednesday, along with that of centre-back Jorge Fellipe. Faris, who was named SPL Player of the Year in 2019 after helping Hougang United to club-record third-place finish, spent the 2020 season with Terengganu FC. There, he registered three goals and three assists in nine Malaysia Super League games.

Regarded as one of the country’s best attackers, Faris has been capped 56 times for the Lions and scored nine goals. The Sailors will be his fourth SPL club after the Young Lions, Home United and Hougang, while this will be Faris’ eighth domestic campaign. He has amassed over 110 SPL appearances and scored 39 goals. His arrival at Bishan Stadium bolsters an impressive offensive set-up that includes last season’s Golden Boot winner Stipe Plazibat, reigning SPL Player of the Year Gabriel Quak and marquee signing Lopes.

Faris scored 16 goals and made six assists in 24 games in 2019 to bag the SPL Player of the Year gong

The Sailors also announced Amirul Adli as their fourth new signing just a few minutes after unveiling Faris. The 25-year-old Singapore defender spent the past three seasons at Tampines Rovers, where he missed just four league games. The versatile Adli, who started his career with the Young Lions in 2011, is equally comfortable at both centre-back and defensive midfield.

Adli, who was nominated for the SPL Young Player of the Year in 2018, will boost the Sailors’ back-line alongside fellow new arrival Fellipe. Capped 11 times at senior international level, he earned his first Lions start in March 2019 and has been part of all four subsequent Singapore squads.
