Top seven reasons to come to 2019 Community Shield!
SINGAPORE, 16 FEBRUARY 2019 – With the 2019 Community Shield and its accompanying Football Fiesta just seven days away, we list seven things you cannot miss out on at the festivities!
- A cracking clash between Albirex Niigata (S) and Home United will be served up – only four of their previous 56 encounters have failed to see a goal and the five Singapore Premier League (SPL) matches between them last year saw 18 goals scored. They were also the most prolific teams in the league last season. You should definitely catch them live in action!
- An enhanced match experience awaits – Jalan Besar will boast a spanking new Jumbotron as well as a top-of-the-line surround sound system, both of which will be in use for the first time. Expect a fantastic atmosphere to be whipped up! Who knows, you may find yourself captured on the big screen!
- How fit do you have to be to play in the SPL? Find out for yourself at the Football Science and Medicine booth, where various fitness tests – mandatory for SPL players – can be tried out. Are you a hare or tortoise? Push yourself to the limits!
- They often get flak for their decisions, but would you want to be in their shoes? Get the lowdown on the art of refereeing at the FAS Referees Department booth, where interactive segments will allow the public to get a feel of how it is like to manage a game!
- Come prepared: there will be a booth selling a variety of merchandise from the SPL clubs. Get your hands on exclusive club merchandise such as this season’s jerseys, scarves and other memorabilia!
- The eight Singapore-based SPL clubs will also be setting up their own booths at the Fiesta, where you can get educated about their history and culture. Show your support for the clubs!
- There will be activities for all! Besides carnival games, both adults and children can have a go at the kick-about sessions and console gaming station. There will also be live performances and SPL mascot appearances. Catch them, snap them and upload on social media. Remember to hashtag #SPL!
