Warriors In Contract Renewal Negotiations With Velez

With one game to go for Warriors FC in the Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League, the club is looking to prepare for next season by negotiating a new contract with striker Nicholas Velez.
Despite this being his debut season in Singapore, Velez has scored 21 goals and is a big reason why the Warriors are sitting at the top of the table on 50 points, three points ahead of Brunei DPMM.
As such, Warriors chairman Lam Shiu Tong revealed that the club are currently in discussion with Velez to tie him down for the 2015 season.
“Hopefully, we are able to come into some form of agreement that he can continue to contribute to team,” Lam added.
“We are very happy with his performance and he has contributed to the good result so far. His work rate is also fantastic, not just in bringing in the goals. He works very hard for every game and that has a positive effect to the rest of the players as well.
“If he stays on with the club for the next season, of course we expect the same type of performance from him and we are having talks with him now.”
Lam was also pleased with the contrast in fortunes his side has now, where they are pushing for the title as opposed to last season when the Warriors were mired in Tier Two’s battle during the same period.
“Comparing to last season, everybody can see that Warriors have made quite of a comeback in terms of performance,” Lam said.
“Results-wise, we are certainly in a better position compared to last year. Last year we were not even in the top half of the league at this stage of the game.
“So the club is fairly happy with the performance. The fact we are still in the title contending position has also put us in a very good position.”
