Courts Young Lions vs Warriors
(Friday, 16 October, 7.30pm, Jalan Besar Stadium)
Warriors FC will be looking to stay in contention for the Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League title when they meet Courts Young Lions at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
The defending champions currently sit in third place with 33 points, six behind leaders Brunei DPMM and need to make up ground.
They will hope to have learnt their lesson from their last game, where they dropped two valuable points after being held to a 2-2 draw with Harimau Muda.
Meanwhile, Courts Young Lions may move out of the bottom three of the table with a victory over the Warriors, should other results go their way.
On a four-game winless run, the Young Lions will be keen to finally secure a win at the Jalan Besar Stadium. Till date, the team have failed to pick up maximum points whenever they play at their home ground.
However, this will not be easy after they have been hit by a spate of key players’ departure.
Playmaker Adam Swandi has enlisted for national service, and Shameer Aziq, who has accounted for four goals in as many games, has followed suit.
Suspension: Afiq Noor (Courts Young Lions), Miroslav Pejic (Warriors FC)
Key Men To Watch
Courts Young Lions: Shahfiq Ghani
Ever since the loss of Adam Swandi, the Young Lions have struggled to break down defences. But Shahfiq has shown glimpses of his playmaking talent and should he find his feet quickly enough the Warriors might be in for a surprise at night.
Also, the youngster has a sweet free-kick and Warriors would do well not to commit any sloppy fouls from 20 yards out.
Warriors FC: HafIz Rahim
With Pejic out suspended, Fazrul Nawaz will be tasked upon to lead the Warriors’ charge for goals.
The striker might just be the perfect foil for Hafiz, who excels at playing just behind the frontman. Hafiz has already displayed his clinical abilities in front of goal this season, and the Young Lions’ backline cannot afford to leave him unmarked.
