Winless Eagles Hoping For Jalan Besar Magic
Written By: Kenneth Ho
Geylang International vs Hougang United
(Friday, 25 September, 7.30pm, Jalan Besar Stadium)
Geylang International will play Hougang United at Jalan Besar Stadium with the knowledge that three points are crucial for them.
The Eagles currently find themselves in an unfamiliar position at the foot of the Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League table after a run of nine straight games without a win, and are desperate to remedy the situation.
Even a win over the Cheetahs will not be enough to move them off bottom spot, with Courts Young Lions and Hougang United ahead of the Eagles by four points.
However, with the season approaching its end, Geylang have little chances left to waste if they do not want to end the campaign in last place.
Geylang will be hoping for a little Jalan Besar magic once again, after enjoying relatively good results there this season. In nine matches played at the venue, the Eagles have only lost two games in all competitions.
However, Hougang will not be looking to do their competitors any favours, and instead look to extend the Eagles’ winless run in the S.League.
Despite a 1-0 defeat to Home recently, the Cheetahs have played well of late and will be confident in their ability to grab maximum points.
Suspensions: Hafiz Osman (Geylang International)
Key Men To Watch
Geylang International: Kento Fukuda
With Hafiz Osman out suspended, Kento should be partnering Yuki Ichikawa in central defence, after the latter is reported to have recovered from injury.
With him leading Geylang’s backline, the Cheetahs will have a difficult time scoring against the Eagles.
Hougang United: Diego Gama
It has been four games since Gama scored a goal for the Cheetahs, but his work rate should not be underestimated.
Always looking to win the ball off defenders, Gama will pose a huge danger to Geylang if the defenders take their eyes off him.
