Young Lions Hungry For Victory
Tanjong Pagar United vs Courts Young Lions
(October 4, Saturday, 7.30pm, Queenstown Stadium)
Written by: Kenneth Ho
Tanjong Pagar United will welcome Courts Young Lions to the Queenstown Stadium after nearly two weeks of rest. Due to the Singapore Cup semi-final taking place last week, the Jaguars were not involved in any matches and instead took to playing friendly games to maintain match fitness.
On the other hand, the Young Lions will enter this game slightly fatigued, as they just played Harimau Muda on 1 October.
The game against the Young Tigers took out lots of energy from the Young Lions, and it saw them pay as a moment of lapse in concentration allowed Harimau to score a late goal in that encounter.
Tanjong Pagar can look to exploit this point, as they look to run the Young Lions rugged and secure another rare win this season.
The Jaguars’ injury woes have been well-documented this season, and it has not eased at all as the season nears its end. This has not been helped by the suspension of Ahmad Latiff, Sebastian Etiemble and Ashraf Rashid for the next game.
However, the Jaguars still possess marquee signing Monsef Zerka, a striker capable of scoring goals at anytime of a match.
It will also be worth remembering that Tanjong Pagar has scored three goals each time they played the Young Lions this season, suggesting that Vallee knows how to get his team to exploit some loopholes of the Young Lions.
However, Tanjong Pagar will also need to be wary of Young Lions trio. Sahil Suhaimi, Sherif El-Masri and Jordan Webb are all capable of causing damage with their sheer pace and shooting.
Suspensions: Ahmad Latiff (Tanjong Pagar), Sebastian Etiemble, (Tanjong Pagar), Ashraf Rashid (Tanjong Pagar), Anumanthan Mohan (Courts Young Lions)
Key Men To Watch
Tanjong Pagar United: Monsef Zerka
After scoring his hat-trick in the season against Young Lions, you can be sure Zerka will want to replicate his form once again. Young Lions captain and defender Al-Qassimy has to lead his team in defence, and keep them well aware of the striker’s movement.
Courts Young Lions: Syazwan Buhari
After conceding so many goals against the Jaguars this season, Syazwan will have something to prove against them. A clean sheet should be on his mind at the very least, in order to frustrate the hosts and allow his side to claim a point, or may be three.
