SINGAPORE, 3 OCTOBER 2020 – Singaporean attacker Zamani Zamri will turn out for the Young Lions for the remainder of the 2020 AIA Singapore Premier League (SPL) season.

The 19-year-old’s signing was announced by the team earlier today. He joins Nazri Nasir’s side from Albirex Niigata (S) and has been training with his new team in recent weeks. Zamani is currently serving National Service (NS), having enlisted earlier this April, but will be allowed to train and play in the SPL.

Team Manager, Samuel Tan, said: “Having featured in almost every SPL game last season, Zamani’s top-flight experience will be an asset for our young side. He is also steeped in Albirex’s culture of discipline and hard work, which we hope will rub off positively on the rest of the team. His versatility gives Head Coach Nazri options on the pitch and from the short time he has been with us, it is clear that he has been a positive influence and welcomed by his team-mates. We are delighted to have Zamani on board and look forward to watching him in action this season.”

The 1.75-metre forward first signed professional terms with Albirex in 2019 and made 21 appearances for the White Swans, starting 20 times in the league and once in the Singapore Cup. Zamani scored his first professional goal in the same year, netting in a 2-1 home defeat to Hougang United in July.

A product of the F-17 Academy, Zamani has represented Singapore at age-group level and was part of the Under-18 squad that took part in last year’s ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U18 Championship and Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U19 Championship qualifiers.
